Received Feb. 19, 12.35 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 19. During a. circus performance at Cjoctamunora, a lion escaped while being returned to its cage. After passing the front seats it made out of the tent. Gathering up some cows and calves in an adjoining paddock, it commenced to drive them towards the townjf 1 It then attacked a pony which was tied m a shed and was sucking the blood from a hole in the neck when it was disturbed. The pony was destroyed. A large crowd, afoot and in motor cars, engaged in the pursuit. After passing down several streets the lion crossed a bridge where the spotlights of two cars were focussed upon it. A local resident landed a shot behind the animal’s shoulders. The partly disabled-lion took refuge on the .steps of a building, where the keeper, who had arrived with the cage, managed to capture it after it had been at liberty for an hour and a half.
