LENTEN MISSION.
SPECIAL ANGLICAN SERVICES. Because the season of Lent is looked upon by the church of England as a time for critical self-examination and for ' some special effort in religious work, and because there are the community large numbers of nominal Anglicans who have lost touch with the church, either wholly or in part, the vicar and vestry of St. Mary’s, Ijlawera, have decided on a special commence in the Opera House on Sunday evening next. These will take the place of the usual evening services in the church during Lent. “Food for the fed up,” is the somewhat unconventional fare offered by the vicar, Rev. H. W. Monaghan, M.A., but his object is simply and directly to reach out with the message and help of the church to such of her members md adherents as have been drawn away by the more swiftly moving currents of the world. Mr. Monaghan states expressly .that he is not seeking to draw people from other denominations, and he trusts that in no case may that happen. This Lenten Mission is entirely -i movement within St. Mary’s, and its aim is to re-establish touch with wandering Anglicans. The service will follow T as far as possible the ordinary Church of England style, and printed sheets will be provided. It is hoped to make congregational singing a feature, and to this dnd a good orchestra has been arranged. Any surplus from the offerings will be devoted to the social service work of the church.
