BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT LONDON. Feb. 17. The Darlington by-election resulted: A. Shepherd (Labour) 12,965 E. N. Pease (Conservative) ... 12,630 Dickie (Liberal) 9,573 Labour circles are naturally jubilant o-ver winning the Darlington seat-, following the gain at Stockport in September. The contest- was very keen. The, .seat has been held by a member of the Pease family for over thirty years', except for a few months in 1910. Mr. Arthur Henderson claims that the result is Labour’s most significant victory during recent years.

At the general election the voting was: W. E. Pease (Conservative) 15,174; A. Shepherd (Labour) 13,008.
