MODERN CHILD.
‘•OUT OF HAND.”
NEUROLOGIST CRITICISES PRE-SENT-DAY TENDENCIES. E? CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Feb. 17. Dr. Russell, a West End neurologist, lecturing before the Insttiute of Hygiene. said that the modern child was out of hand. The present-day tendency was to study the children’s whims and pander to them, thus allowing the children to do much as they pleased. This was responsible for much harm. Hygiene of thle body and. mind was greatly needed when children were permitted to read baneful literature at .will and to spend hours in cinemas. It would be better to return to thei strict discipline of the Victorian era rather than remain as at present. Dr. Russell deplored th e disappearance of the chaperone, and this was responsible for long night hours in cabarets. Girls could only keep up with the assistance of alcohol and drugs. Before they were twenty years of age they developed the lined faces of mid-d’e-agjed women. As mothers they would produce only miserable neurotics. —A. and N.Z. Assn.
