HAMPTON BANK ROBBERY.
SECOND MAN CONVICTED BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT MELBOURNE. Feb. 18. Douglas, Robertson, charged with the murder of the bank clerk, Mr. Almeida, was found guilty of manslaughter and remanded for .sentence. The foreman said the jury had not reached an unanimous decision as to who actually fired the shot. ■[The robbery and murder occurred in the bank at Hampton just as Mr. Almeida, a young man, was about to close the office in which he was working alone. Two men dashed into the bank and one of them pointed a. revolver at Mr. Almeida, at the same time commanding him to put up his hands. Disregarding* the demand Mr. Almeida jumped behind a partition, where he seized a revolver that was lying on a desk. Immediately he reappeared the robber who had the revolver fired at him, and the bullet struck him just below the heart. The two men then proceeded to rob the hank. As they were leaving Mr. Almeida rushed after them, and bailing up the unarmed man brought about his arrest. The other man escaped Mr. Almeida was taken to a hospital, where he died.]
