Lord Oraumore moved in the House of Lords the appointment of a Select Committee to report whether the Crown’s pledges from 1920—23 have been fulfilled in regard to the completion of Irish land purchases simultaneously with tbe passing of Home R.ule. Lord Ora.ninore asserted that the nonfulfilment of pledges had ruined some Irish owners. The Lord Chancellor did not agree that there had been a promise which would place a charge upon British funds in favour of Southern Irish landowners. It was arranged that the Free State .should, carry out the pledges under its Land Act. The motion was carried by 3d to 33 votes, amid cheers and cries, of “resign.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
