THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
VISIT TO "ROTORUA. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ROTORUA, Fell. 4. The Governor-General arrived at Rotorua last night. This morning His Excellency was tendered a civic wcl come in the Government gardens anwas presented with an illuminated address. This afternoon the vice-regal party visited Wliakarewarewa, where Mita Taupopoki made a stirring speech, supported by Arawas in dance and song. His Excellency, replying, re,vie,wed his past connection with the Arawas and presented them with a mere, the gift of his father by the chief Pohipi Tukairanga, of Taupo, in 187.4, as a token, of peace between the Maori, and pakelia races for ever and ever, lie wave it back to the Arawas as a sign that peace should, obtain between the races for ever and ever, quoting the words of his father to Poiliipi: “Let, us live in peace among you, for sureiv as the water of the Waikato flow down to the sea, so will peace and prosperity follow the union of the two races. Great satisfaction was expressed, by the Arawas at the gift. Their Excellencies greeted the chief and walnne in native fashion, greatly to the gratification of the spectators .after which an extended tour of the therma sights was made.
