MOTORING REGULATIONS.
* AMENDMENTS PROPOSED. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Feb. 4. Several matters connected with the motoring regulations were discussed at the municipal conference, which opened here to-day. A motion that the Motor Vehicles Act. ho reviewed with a view to provision being made for local bodies to participate in the net return received from license fees was lost. Mr Deane (Pukekohe) moved the following extension of the motor regulations: (a) That clause 11, the classification of motor lorries, be amended to provide for the classification of vehicles which with their load weigh two tons and under; (b) that clause 11, license, fees, be amended, by fixing a fee for the above class of vehicle; (e) that the whole of these regulations, except the. clauses dealing with license! fese, be applicable to all motor lorries and not confined to vehicles used for hire or commercial purposes. Clauses (a) and (b) were moved separately and lost. Clause (e) was carried with the alteration of "vehicles” to "motor lorries.” The Masterton delegate moved that all fines recovered for breaches of the heavy traffic regulations be handed over to the prosecuting local authority. The motion was carried. Mr Leese (Taumarunui) moved that the Government be urged in issuing registration. numbers for motor vehicles throughout the Dominion to revert to the prior system of district indication on the number plates. The motion was (Palmerston North) moved that where car owners secuted for breaches of the traffic bylaws the onus should be on the ow-nei of proving that lie was not the owner. This was carried. Mr Donaldson (Newmarket) move! that it be made mandatory for aU motor omnibuses to be Prodded t rear exits as well as front exits, tnc motion being carried.
