(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 27. A one-day cricket match, Southern Hawke’s Bay versus Manawatu seniors, resulted' in a win for the home team on the first innings. The visitors. batting first, made 91 and 50 for four wickets. Manawatu replied with 152. PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. CANTERBURY LEADING OTAGO. CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 27. ALL OUT FOR THIRTY-FOUR. HAWKE’S BAY AFTER THE HAWKE CUP. NELSON, Dec. 26. A Hawke Cup cricket match between Nelson (holders) and Hawke’s Bay (challengers) was opened here to-day. Hawke’s Bay won the toss and batted, being dismissed for 34 runs (Cane 2, Brown 2, Stephenson 6, Bradburn 3, White 0, Scott 1, Pirie 4, Stevens 5, Reid 0, Rouis 5, O’Connor 6. extras 0). Lines took five wickets for 18 and Haycock four wickets for 10. Nelson for the loss of four wickets have made 109 (Neale 65, Fletcher 24, Haycock 8, Papps 6). STATE GAMES IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, Dec. 27. There was hot weather and a fast wicket for the New South WalesQueensland cricket match. New South Wales, in the first innings, made 408 (Phillips 57, Scanes 67, Ratcliffe 106,' Punch 58). Sims took four wickets for 92 runs and Thompson four for 21. Queensland had lost one wicket for no runs when stumps were" drawn. There was delightful weather in Melbourne and an excellent and fast wicket for Sheffield Shield cricket match between New South Wales and Victoria. When stumps were drawn Victoria had lost six wickeets for 251 (Mayne 25, Woodfull 53, Ponsford 68, Hendry 5, Tarrant 9, Love 56 not out, Baring 28 not out). Macartney’s bowling was a feature of the day. He captured five wickets for 49. Kelleway took the other wicket (Mayne’s). The most runs were scored off Gregory and Mailey. The Mayne-Woodfull and Ponsford-Love partnerships were lively and interesting. The cricket otherwise was slow. HAWERA v. WAVERLEY. A team from the Hawera Club journeyed to Waverley on Saturday, and played a match with a Waverley team, the latter winning on the first innings by 33 runs. Going in first, the visitors were all out for the small score of 50, Craig being the principal destroying agent and getting five wickets for 20 runs. N Waverley put up 83, of which Browning and Bradmore scored 40 between them. McKenzie, McFadven and Nielsen divided the bowling honours. Hawera’s second innings was declared closed with seven wickets down for 132 with a possibility of getting Waverlev out before time was up, but the latter played out time for the loss of seven wickets. A team representing Taranaki travelled to Wanganui to-day to play k return match with the southerners.

Several of those selected were unable to make the trip. • The following represented Taranaki; Cole, Lay, Crombie, Grant, Crawford, Jennings, Grayson, Bott’rill, Lasli, Brodie and Kerr. Monaghan and Giblin (Hawera) and Clarke (New Plymouth) were not able to get away.
