WHAREROA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POLITICAL. Mr H. G. Dickie, the Government candidate for the Patea seat„ addressed an audience of over forty electors here last night. Mr Robt, Hicks was voted to the chair. The candidate delivered: a fluent and lucid address on the lines of his former pronouncements, and held the close attention of the meeting for an hour and a half. At the conclusion of his address, Mr Geo. Gould moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Dickie and of confidence in the party he represented. Mr E. 'Carswell seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously, and many remained behind to congratulate the speaker on his delivery. A feature of the meeting was the considerable attendance of ladies.

Mr J. R. Corrigan, the National candidate. delivered an address here on Monday night, but owing perhaps to the inclemency of the weather, coupled with the fact of many being away for the holiday, the attendance was not considerable. Mr Corrigan spoke in his usual fluent style, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, on the motion' of Mr R. Kavaiiagh, seconded by Mr H. Steffert.

A happy feature of local meetings was stressed by the chairman last night —the fact that each speaker is assured of a fair hearing here. This is quite as it should be, for if a candidate hires a building wherein to speak it seems to me that he should have an uninterrupted use of the period of lids hire, and queries and discussion should be reserved till the Conclusion of that time.
