PERILOUS WORK
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT
Received Oct. 22, 2.50 p.m. • NEW YORK, Oct. 21. The Italian freighter Ignazio Eiorio, was abandoned in a sinking condition. Twenty-seven of the crew were removed after an amazing rescue by the crew of the steamer President Harding. The latter vessel stood by all night, and was unable to assist because of the high seas and hurricane. The seas moderated sufficiently in the morning, however, to allow lifeboats to approach the derelict, oil being used to smooth the seas. All ‘the Florio’s lifeboats mere smashed, and the rudder was torn away.—Sydney Sun Cable. v
