MONEY WAITING.
COUNCIL UNABLE TO LIFT IT. The Chairman of the Stratford County Council (Mr. E. Walter) said at the* meeting on Saturday that there iiad been a hitch in connection with the raising of the Toko Road and Ivaipoi Hoad "loans, and the entire procedure would have to b© gone through again. It was necessary that the resolution to raise a loan should be passed at a special meeting of the council, and-then confirmed at the next general meeting. The confirmation had then to be advertised, but a recent case, Brent net- v. the Wnitotara County Council, showed that it was legally necessary- to advertise the date, time, and place of the meeting in full. That procedure had not been adopted previously, and as a, result of the judgment given in the above case the Pubic Trustee, before supplying the money, required the correct procedure to be adopted. “The hard part,” concluded Mr. Walter, ‘‘is that the money is waiting for us and we cannot lift it.” Th e necessary formal resolution was passed.
