FUSION ISSUE
CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. PROPOSAL NOT ADVANCED. WHAT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, June 30. Proposals for the amalgamation of the two main political parties were not advanced appreciably to-day as a -resu t of a further conference of delegates from each party. The Liberals have not yet fixed the time for their caucus to receive their delegates’ report, thus indicating that there is nothing sufficiently important to warrant haste. Certain resolutions passed at the recent Reform Party caucus have been the subject of discussion by tlie eight delegates, and also by the Liberal caucus. These, it is well understood, relate to difficulties over candidates already selected by the respective parties, and also the organisation in the electorates. The original report of. the delegates submitted to both parties related wholly, it is said, to the suggested basis of a po’iey for a joint party. It did not, as has been erroneously reported, deal with possibilities of Cabinet reconstruction if fesion is accomplished. This subject has not been raised.
