N.Z. FRIESIAN ASSOCIATION.

TARANAKI BRANCH. -> Taranaki Friesian breeders and a few from other places were present at the annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the Friesian Association at the Eigmont A. and P. rooms to-day. Mr. C. A. March ant (president) was in the chair. Mr. J. P. Ivalangher (Dominion secretary) and Mr. A. J. Barr (branch secretary), were also present. TQie chairman welcomed Mr. J. PKalangher and visiting breeder®. He said Mr. Ivalangher had only been a short time in office, but he had done an immense amount of work, and he felt sure, would be the means of promoting a< greater interest in the breed than had hitherto been the case.

Referring to the business of the meeting, he said lie had no formal report to make, but would give a resume of what had been done during the last year. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association was held at Hawera last year, and at last Winter Show in Hawera there had been a live stock exhibit, a feature that had never been tried previously in the Dominion. It Iliad proved very successful and hlad been beneficial to all breeders. It bad been intended to repeat- the exhibit this year, but the elemental were against them. This was to be regretted, because a lot of highclass animals could have been shown.

In regard to the subscription to the parent body, tilts had been raised to £2 2s, as (against 31s 6d previously—• £1 Ls land 10si 6d for herd book-—the extra 10s 6d to be returned to the branch committee to help them in their finance. He said he had recently thoroughly inspected the herd book and found that out of 110 names on the Taranaki list, only 62 were financial. The income from subscriptions was only £3l 10s. The matter of breeders becoming members during the course of any year would have. to be watched, because otherwise the branch might suffer.

In regard to the work oif the branch, as Taranaki was l rather extensive, he suggested, a committee to run the affairs, of the branch. He assumed the difficulty of coming long distances militated against good meetings. He considered every Friesian breeder should be a member of a branch association. He thought that on account of' the increase in national subscription they should reduce the local subscription to IDs 6d. Referring to A. and P. Association prizes, lie said the branch, subsidised any such amounts allotted. Any donations made for .special prizes tor local shows were liberally subsidised hj the local associations. . The activities of the breed were kept before the "public and much good was done therebv. Testing was carried on widely through the province, and many gfcod records were being made, will eh would be announced Hater. SUBSCRIPTION RATE. . .

The chairman moved that the annual uibsoripit-ion to the branch be 10s 6d.

Mr. H. J. Mia reliant' advocated a local increase, otherwise it would he far worse off.

Mr. W. R.. Wright said that the committee .should find the amount coming from the parent body and. deduct this from the total revenue expected and make a levy on members. Messrs. Johnson, Betts and O’Shea expressed .approval of the suggestion, and on being put the motion was carried. COMMITTEE, The suggestion of forming a. small committee to facilitate carrying on the business, of the branch was approved by Mr. G. Gibson, who moved that a committee of five be formed, three to form a quorum. The motion was seconded .by Mr. H. E. Johnson.

The president said that previously every member had been asked to attend the meetings!, but it was not satisfactory. They should have one or two representing each area. Then general meetings could be called when necessary.

Mr. Kalangner urged frequent general meetings of breeders, for local branches were ilia life-blood of the parent body. The motion to form a committee of live was carried, and It was resolved also to elect a president as one of the committee. OFFICERSTlio following were elected: —President, Mr. O. A. Marcihant. (re-elected); members —Messrs. H. I'll. Johnson, H. J. Marehant, J. K. O’Shea, C. W, Baldwin. Secretary—Mr. A. J. Rarr was appointed, and his remuneration was fixed at £ls, as before.

REMIT. A remit was approved as follows, to be sent forward to the N.Z. Council: “That the owner of a cow during her full milking period (although -such cow be sold before she calves) be given credit in the year book for the Certificate of Record.”
