THE SESSION.
OPENING ON THURSDAY
AIR STEWART TO DELIVER BUDGET.
The session—the last of the present Parliament —will commence on Thursday. With the general election not far off, there is certain to be a great deal of talk and not a great deal of legislation says the New Zealand Times. The session will probably last three months or a little longer. A noconfidence amendment may be expected, if not from the Liberals, certainly from the. Labour Party, possibly on -the first Imprest Supply Bill. If Mr. Wilforcl decides to move an amendment he will, of course, get in ahead of the Labour Party, but in view of Air. Wilford’s recent statement , about “vain quarrellings over petty things,” it may be difficult for him to justify the moving of a no-confidence amendment. The main part of the GovernorGeneral’s speech, which is delivered on the opening day, is already in print, and the facts iq, regard to finance have been occupying the attention of the Treasury and the Hon. Mr. Nosworthy. who is acting as Minister of Finance pending the arrival- of the Hon. Mr. Downie Stewart. The latter js now expected here on the third instead of the sixth of July, and will be sworn in as Alinister of Finance, so that the reading of the Budget- speech .will fall to his lot later in the session.
