ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FELL FROM ELECTRIC POWER POLE. (BY TELEGRAPH —rREftB ASSOCIATIONFEUDING, April 24./ J. Murphy, a - married man with two children, residing at Palmerston, North, while operating on an electric power pole at Pei filing this morning, foil 20 ftfot. When lie was picked up he was conscious, though greatly injured on the head andi face. He complained of stomach pains and died while on the way to the Palmerston North hospital. There wore indications that the man had touched a live cable. He was not wearing a life-belt at the time, though the power board’s instructions make this compulsory.
LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. PALMEfIRSTON N., April 24. A railway crossing accident of a serious nature occurred this morning at the level crossing at Kelvin Grove. R. V Purton, a local motor-car agent, who was travelling in a new car, had almost cleared the crossing when the rear of the vehicle was struck with tcriflc force by the foremost of two engines proceeding in the direction of Marton. According to the enginedriver the car was hurled into the air. The oeupant was thrdwn clear, landing on his head. A repair gang found the car fifty feet from the point of the smash, and there were no marks between where it lay and the point of impact. Purton, who is suffering from a fractured skull, was admitted to hospital.
