DRESSING SHEDS AND BATHS.

DISCUSSED BY A. A P ASSOCIATION.

SCHEME HEARTILY APPROVED

The general committee of the A. and P. Association has heartily endowed the action of the sub-committee (Mr. S. C. Tonfe-s and Mr. F. GiUandeis) in their negotiations with the sports bodies in regard to dressing sheds and baths, and gae them power to complete negotiations, at their discretion. At the meeting on Saturday Mr. S. o. Tonics said .that' the meeting of combined sports dlufos would deal definitely with, the matter' oil Saturday evening. The spouts bodies lvad, however, practically agreed to take on the i-v-heme. The fi xtu ics would have to be made movable, and this*. was the only detriment.. It would greatly popularise the grounds and also help the clubs, . t Mr. Gii’anders «a.id • if the committee approved the alterations, to be specified as nronosed. the matter could be left- to Mr. Tofiks and himself, and if necessary they could call h. general meeting, but he thought there would be no need for that. The president (Mr. E. A. Washer) said the alterations would provide dressing sheds for the' young: men, a thing, that should have been done years ago. He vaA strongly. in favour of the scheme. Mr. W. McL’Dowie said lie favoured it very much. Anyone attending football matches would see the young footballers standing about in, their wet togs', with an overcoat- on, because there was no dressing accommodation' on the ground. On the motion of Mr. B. C. Lysaght, seconded by Mr. G' Ford, it was decided to confirm the action, of the subcommittee and give them power to complete negotiations' with the sports bodies. , .

Tlrie was carried unanimously, the nresiden.t remarking that it was the best move made for a. long time.

MEETING OF SPORT'S BODIES

SCHEME TO PROCEED

Theie was a fair attendance of dele-' gates from the various sports bodies on Saturday evening, over whom Mr. A. Gray presided. Those present were : Mewses. F. GiWanders and S. O. Tonks (A. and P. Association), Weir (Ath-j leticss). Hall (Wednesday Rugby), Goodwin (Hiawera), Jones, and Hunt (Athletic Rugby), Ye anbury (Tennis), St. George (Boxing),-Morgan (Soccer), and L. 0. Hooker (lion, secretary). The chairman said it had been agreed to go ahead with some scheme, and he recapitulated the proceedings of the committee up to date. He said he hoped that all sports bodies would take part iu the scheme. Mr. Gilllanders, reporting on the meeting of the A. and P. Committee, said the association had agreed to give the use of the big building for dressing isheds, provided the necessary alterations did not prevent the use of the shed at show time. It would be necessary to make the fixtures movable, but they could be braced to the walls. The ’ astsociation was not in a position, to put money into the alterations. 1

The chairman said that the attitude of the A. .and P. Association was quite reasonable, . and he ( considered they were very .generous, for the association did not stand to get much benefit, if any, out of it. He went on to say that some scheme of 1 operations was necessary. ' The Football Club had the slim of £250 in which, and had stated, they were prepared to put that into a scheme.

Mr. Hooker said that probably about £7O more- would be required to complete the alterations. They would, be wise to figure on raising £ 100 additional. Mr. Tonks said has association liad no money to spare, and did not want to have to shoulder any part of the expense. Mr. Hooker said he was sure all sport*, bodies would give .something, and that the amount could he raised quite easily. He suggested every member being asked to give a small amount. The £250 raised by. the art union was practically from put, side, and it was up to Hawera to do the rest.

In. response to the chairman, each delegate spoke for the club he represented .

Mr. K. Jones, for the Athletic dub, said liis members, were ail in favour of the scheme and would come in on any arrangements that the committee would put in hand. Mr. Yearbury said he was afraid "it would not be of use to.- the Tennis Club.

Mr. Hooker raised the question of evening practice, arid said the sheds might be used for that purpose. Mr. St’. George said the Boxing Association would do all in. their power to assist. ..and. considered the sheds would he of great use to his club.

A similar opinion was expressed by Ur. Hall for tlw AVednesdav Itrurby dub. - .

Mr. Morgan said the meeting was really called to . see how the funds were to be raised. Tire chairman said that it had not. been decided whether the clubs should he. asked to provide a part of the finance. Tie . then, raid that first it should be decided to accent the offer of the A... and P. Association. and on his motion a resolution to this effect was carried. ,

Mr. St. George agreed with the remarks of Mr. Hooker in reference to a. donation by every member of each club. On. Mr. Hooker’s motion, it was resolved that canvassers be appointed, to secure the amount, amb that the members of sports bodies be all asked to make a small donation. Mr, Griodwi n. said that the new committee and the Hawera Football Club had not yet decided to devote the funds to the scheme. , It would be necessary to have a meeting of his new committee had had the idea of doing all the building required. The chairman said that if the football committee did not. agree to the Vernier committee’s resolution, to devote these funds to the scheme, the whole basis would, be altered. Mr Goodwin said he honed the building would be erected at. the very earliest possible moment. Mr Hooker said he believed that all who reed the building should subscribe, and he was confident a request for a donation would not be refused. He was confident all would come in. The Mayor (Mr Bone), chairman of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr Dixon), Messrs Tonks and Goodwin were appointed to go into the matter of raising the amount required. Messrs A. Gray and Gillanders were deputed to interview Messrs Bone and Dixon in the matter. On. the motion of Mr Hooker a'subcommittee consisting of Messrs Gray, Morgan, Hooker and Tonks was apn«xt. if possible to go into the matter of. the-funds of the proposed scheme. As it was considered practically certain the Hawera* Football Club would

agree to the scheme and hand over the funds held, a committee consisting of Messrs A. Gray, Hooker, . Morgan, Goodwin and Gillanders was set up to confer with the Hawera Football Club, and with power to act- if considered necessary. This means that if the conference is satisfactory the work would be put in hand at once. Mr Morgan said he wanted to help the project, and therefore wished to give his services to the committee.' This offer was received with great appreciation. The meeting concluded bv passing'a hearty vote of thanks to the chair and to the A. and P. Association -for the use of the room. * - 1 THE BUILDING. It may be mentioned that the scheme of reconstruction of the A. and P. produce shed will provide a shed 80ft by 30ft, with necessary partitions and screens, and giving space for 16 shower baths and about of) lockers. Hot and cold water will be provided. The scheme will be one of the greatest use and value to all athletic bodies.
