j Mr. J. Davies, who has been .acting ,as secretary for the Hawera Cricket .Club during the past season) leaves, for Auckland to-morrow, where lie will be residing in future. On Saturday atter- ! noon Mr. B. McCarthy (president) <■ ai behalf of the members of the Hawera j Cricket Club presented Mr. Davies with a cricket bat as a memento of esteem, |and voiced the regret of the Club ai losing the services of a capable secretary and most promising cricketer. A Press cablegram from Delhi during the .week-end announced the death of Lord Rawlinson, Commander-in-Chiev in India. Lord Rawlinson, who was G„ years of. age, was one of the distinguish, ed army commanders in the European War. He entered the army in 1884 and served in the Burma, Soudan and South African campaigns with distinction, while he added greatly to his military record by his fine work on the Western front during the European War. He was appointed to. command the Fourth Army jn 1918. He was operated upon jast week for appendicitis. At a meeting of the Ohawe Seaside Committee very hearty appreciation of the work done for several years by Mr. 33. G. Jones as secretary of the society, and one of its most enthusiastic members, was expressed by the chairman (Mr. N. H. C. Caplen), when advice was received of Mr. Jones’ early departure for Auckland, and his consequent resignation. A hearty vote of thanks was carried, all the members speaking in terms of eulogv of the good service rendered by Mr. .tones In acknowledging the vote Mr. Jones said he was ox ceedingly sorry to be leaving and wish ed the society all success in the future.
