TEST CRICKET.
FINAL STAGES. 0F FIRST MATCH. VICTORIA AT THE WICKET. LBY TELEGRAPH ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, March 24. The final stages of the first test match were entered on under ideal weather conditions. Ellis and Austin opened the visitors’ second innings, 142 runs being for a win. Dickinson and Mcßeth opened the attack. The latter bowled a maiden to Austin, who almost played one from Dickinson on to his wicket, but with the next brought 10 rip, snicking the leather through the slips for four. At 12.30 the total was 21 for none.
At 29 Blunt replaced Mcßeth (none for 6). Mcßeth .went on at the other end in place of Dickinson. Runs came at a steady pace, and Ellis reached 20 after 44 minutes. Austin attempted a big hit off Mcßeth, and was smartly caught by McGirr. 47 —I—lß. Mayne was the next batsman. At the luncheon adjournment the score was three wickets for 80 runs. Later. Victoria won by six wickets. DA ORE WILL BE AVAILABLE Wellington, March 24. Tt is now definitely stated that Dacfe,. will be available for the second test against the Victorians. A previous message.stated that he would nob be available.
