The railway crossing accident 'occupied ait a. late hour ot the night, and m the crossing-keeper is in a. suite of co Ifapse, full derails are not available. A woman walking near the crossing says jifc was fairly dark. Suddenly there was a. brilliant flash from the electric wire a.t the moment o-f the collision. The coach continued. travelling two hundred yards before :t wnis pulled up. ’The bodies of some of tire victims were carried as far as .the coach travelled nrd debris of the smashed car was scattered in all directions. The woman picked* up an injured child, but it died before .she readied the gatehoused The victims were en route to a party in aid of the building fund of the local Catholic Church. The crash, was heard by residents in the vicinity. They aojckly gathered and rendered what assistance was possible, and though doctors were soon available, all were, dead before they arrived
Residents in. the locality state that there was only one flight in. the vicinity. birt this was not on. Frequent com.pl a infs had been made of the dancer of the crossing, and pressure had been brought to bear to make it more safe, hut without avail. Another .statement is to the effect that the swfety bell, which operated from Moornbibin station, when traffic is approacfliin.g Hie crossing, was not rung.
