POVERTY BAY MEAT COMPANY
VALUE OF THE WORKS
(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, March 24. The hearing of evidence in regard to the charge made by Mr. Lysnar, M.P. concerning the sale of the Poverty Bay Farmers Meat Company's works was resumed to-day. Evidence, was called ns to the value of the works.
Alexander James, an architect, considered the. works were thoroughly up-to-date, well equipped, and capable of dealing with 4000 sheep and 150' head of cattle per day. The value, was usually computed according to killing capacity. The buildings were valued in September, 1921, at £229,360, and the total valuation, including plant and machinery was £401,802. In 1923 he made a further valuation and considered that the works could not be replaced for £400,000. To Mr. Myers, witness said he would be very surprised to learn that the total cost of 'land, building, plant and machinery was only about £220,000, which Air. Myers said was a fact.
