NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING AT HAWERA. ACCOMMODATION AND ENTERTAINMENT. Last year the annual meeting of this dairy farmers’ institution was held at Auckland, the first move from Palmerston North for several years, and the change of venue was very popular. When the question of the 1925 meeting was discussed the claims of other centres were considered, and after much consideration a motion resolving on Hawera was carried almost unanimously., the deciding factor probably being a message from Mr Hooker from Hawera guaranteeing that accommodation would be secured. The decision means a successful conclusion to some years of effort made by the leading men in the dairy world, and. was due largely to Mr J. R. Corrigan, Mr J. B. Murdoch, Mr T. A. Winks, and Mr S. C. Tonks and others who have been keen to see Hawera chosen. . The question of accommodation, has been under consideration by the Winter Show Executive, and recently negotiations with the Licensed Victuallers Association in Hawera resulted in ft distinct step forward in preparation for the big influx of delegates to the N.D.A., who will be here at the end of June. Last night, at the ordinary meeting of the Winter Show Executive, Mr Hooker reported the steps already taken in this matter, and also in connection with the granting of privileges to visiting delegates. He stated that the hotelkeepers had taken the matter in hand with a thoroughness that promises well for the function. They will fit up rooms attached to their hotels, and in addition the old technical school will he available if required. A deputation from the association attended* the meeting, consisting of Mr J. B. Murdoch (acting-chairman of the N.D.A.), Mr T. A. Winks and Mr S. C. Tonks. Mr Murdoch spoke specially 'of the question 'of accommodation and the need for seeing that the arrangements are carried out with discrimination. He said that before long a complete list would be available of the delegates, and that then it would be possible to know better how to proceed. Mr Winks stressed the need also of seeing that all privileges possible were granted to delegates, and that in addition the opportunity was taken to ensure that visitors were enabled to see as manv of the attractions as possible of the district of South Taranaki. After some discussion a general plan of action was agreed on. Complimentary tickets to the Winter Show are to be given to all chairmen of factories, and all visiting members of the N.D.A. Cordial appreciation was expressed of the arrangements proposed. Following on this meeting a deputation will wait on his Worship the Mayor with a view to his getting the towspeople generally interested and calling a public meeting to see what steps can be taken to assist and also what funds will be available to entertain the visitors.
