INFANTILE PARALYSIS.

LAST NIGHT’S REPORTS. (BY TELEGRAPH PREPS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Alarch 16. During the, week-end three cases of infantile paralysis were reported to the Auckland Health Department:—one case in the city, one in the northern district, one in the southern area. An important analysis of the, effects of the epidemic in the whole health district of Auckland has been prepared. There were 176 cases up to the end of February. Of these there were 108 patients with actual paralysis. It is believed 52 patients have, reasonable prospects of recovery. Altogether there are 56 cases which are considered liable to have permanent effects of paralysis, although 20 will probably be of a. minor character. In addition, there were 27 notified cases of an abortive type. The remaining 39 cases were fatal. CHRISTCHURCH, March 16. Six new infantile 1 paralysis cases were notified from noon on Saturday until noon to-day. TE' AWAAIUTU, March 16. A suspected case of infantile paralysis, the first to occur in this district, was reported to-day, the patient being a child under two years. It is reported as a very mild case. DUNEDIN, Alarch 16. An infantile paralysis suspect from the city area was admitted to hospital. The ease in the Naseby Hospital, a girl aged 19, is serious. WELLINGTON, Alarch 16. Infantile paralysis notfications for the forty-eight hours ended at. 9 a.m. are: Auckland district, 3; Wellington, 3; Canterbury, 7; and Otago, 3.

AT GISBORNE. , GISBORNE, March 17. A further case of infantile paralysis has been reported, that ~of an eleven months old boy, from Patutahi. IN SOUTH TARANAKI. ONE MILD CASE. Satisfactory progress is being maintained bv the patients under treatment at. the hospital, and the position in Hawera generally appears much better. ' , . The only “report” received is a mild case’ from Okaiawa, a girl of eleven, who was notified front Norirnmby. The occurrence of these cases from more or less out of the way districts emphasises, however, the continued need fo'r caution.
