A sports meeting in honour of the visit of the Australian athletes was held on the Caledonian grounds to-day under the a-u-apiees of the Otago; centre of N.Z.A.A.A. in good weather. M, Whyte (Australia) scr., 1, Sounmess, 30yds 2, Burney, 45yds 3. Whyte headed the field 130 yardls from home and jogged in an easy winner. Time, 2.4 1-5. 440 Yards Handicap.—Whyte («scr) 1, Duff (18yds) 2, Walker (14yds) 3. A great race between the first -and second men, Whyte getting home by five yards. One Mile Relay.—Australia (Hyde, Whyte. G reban, Parker) scr'., 1; Varsity No. 1,2. Five teams started. Australia bad it all their own way and won by 20 yards. Time, 3.48. One Mile Cycle Handicap.—C. Burness (Australia) scr. 1, A. C. E. Wills (2yd;s) 2. Seven started. Burness headed the field at the three-quarter mark and won by three lengths. Fitzgerald, the Australian crack rider, won the two mile scratch race in 4.46. and the one- and a- half mile invitation -scratch race in 3.21 4-5.
