AUSTRALIANS AT DUNEDIN. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, March 14. A sports meeting in honour of the visit of the Australian athletes was held on the Caledonian grounds to-day under the a-u-apiees of the Otago; centre of N.Z.A.A.A. in good weather. The attendance was about 2000. Principal results: 1.00 Yards 1 Handicap.—A. J. Grelian (Australia) ,1, Brownlie 2, Fountain 3. Won by half a . yard. Time, lOsec. One Mile Flat Handicap.—R-. A. Rose- (Maist-ertoii) scr., 1, G. R.' Hyde (Australia) scr. 2, E. L. Brown (Otago) 3. A great race. Rose won by ten yards. Time, 4.30. 880 Yards Handicap.—-W. M, Whyte (Australia) scr., 1, Sounmess, 30yds 2, Burney, 45yds 3. Whyte headed the field 130 yardls from home and jogged in an easy winner. Time, 2.4 1-5. 440 Yards Handicap.—Whyte («scr) 1, Duff (18yds) 2, Walker (14yds) 3. A great race between the first -and second men, Whyte getting home by five yards. One Mile Relay.—Australia (Hyde, Whyte. G reban, Parker) scr'., 1; Varsity No. 1,2. Five teams started. Australia bad it all their own way and won by 20 yards. Time, 3.48. One Mile Cycle Handicap.—C. Burness (Australia) scr. 1, A. C. E. Wills (2yd;s) 2. Seven started. Burness headed the field at the three-quarter mark and won by three lengths. Time, 2.23 2-5: Bur ness- fell in the seventh, lap of the three-mile cycle bandi-ciap, hut lie continued, a fact greatly appreciated by the spectators. He'wae unplaced. At the St. Patrick*® sports, the 135 yards Sheffield Handicap resulted: McLennan' (6’yds) 1, Symister (Byds) 2, Grafton (llvd.s) 3, Thomson (Oiyds) 4. Time, 12 3-s?ec;s. _J. Fitzgerald, the Australian crack rider, won the two mile scratch race in 4.46. and the one- and a- half mile invitation -scratch race in 3.21 4-5. The St. Patrick’s Wheel Race resulted:—.Burch 1.- Ritchie 2. Boris 3, anfc 4. Time, 2.10 3-5.
