St. Clair bad a. runaway - victory in the champion sculls, and the Dominion crew easily'accounted for the eight-oar championship of New South. Wales. The presence of the New Zealanders added special interest, and: their sue-ce.sr-i was generously acclaimed by the big crowds afloat and lining the banks ■if the championship course. The Chief Secrebai-y (Mr. Oakes) represented the State Government, and; there was a large party of Parliamentarians among those on special steamers. The weather was fine and the water was smooth, and there was little wind. THE SCULLS. In the sculls*St. Clair, who rowed at 12st. 3lb, met six local scullers. The New Zealander went to the front a.t the gasworks, where. Lorimer, who had made the. pace a, cracker, showed s-igp-s of tiring. N From this point onward St. Clair was never troubled, sculling in splendid style and well within himself. The New Zealander had ten lengths to the good at the two- miles, and a little later he bad affairs so well ill hand that he actually stopped rowing to wave to friends ashore.
