COURT AT KAPONGA.

HILARIOUS INDIVIDUAL FINED. The hilarious behaviour of a man within the precincts of .a Kaponga boarding house on Saturday afternoon occasioned some alarm for the safety of other occupants, as well as the domestic property of the establishment, and police assistance was sought. The person responsible for the uneasiness apparently evinced startling changes of disposition in a brief space of -time. After allegedly seeking Divine help in orthodox fashion for the recovery of a boarder confined to bed through illness, the hilarious one is said to have entered into debate with another person, and, as a means of emphasising his arguments, to have made telling use of a piece of crockery. The call for assistance was promptly answered by Constable O’Donogliue. who proffered some sound advice, which, however, was not accepted by the forceful debater, who foolishly endeavoured to uphold his dignity by a crude display of catch-as-catch-ean tactics. with the result that in a few moments he was addressing the unresponsive interior walls of the lock-up cell. The aftermath took place at the Kaponga police station this morning, when, on a charge of drunkenness, the man, who was treated as a first offender, was convicted by Mr A. E. Anderson, .T.P., and fined the sum of ss.
