DASTARDLY OUTRAGE.
IN BRISBANE’S CHINATOWN. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. BRISBANE, Jan. 1. A dastardly bomb outrage was perpetrated in Chinatown at Innisfail and caused a great sensation. Police inquiries showed that a bomb bad been placed in a tin with a, fuse attached, and then lifted and hurled at a building, which is> some distance from the street and is reached by a narrow laneway. A portion of the side of the building was blown out by the force of the explosion, while the inside resembled a shambles. The place is owned by a Greek, who was sleeping not far away. As soon as the bomb exploded he jumped up and saw a man through a broken window. He fired shots from a revolver, but the man disappeared. It is little less than a miracle that no lives were lost. Practically every building in Chinatown was shaken. Two hotels some distance away were bsrdly rattled. One rocked violently, so great was the concussion oTThe explosion.
This portion of Chinatown has been the scene of several attempted outrages lately, but up to the present only fire has been resorted to. The new development in the shape of bombs has caused consternation among the foreign population.
