STRATFORD-OHURA ROAD.
Motorists who contemplate touring this summer, says the Herald, will be interested ui the following information concerning the picturesque route through the Tangarakau Gorge on the Ohura-Stratford Road. At the outset it must be stated, that this is an unmetalled highway oyer almost the whole of its length, and is only passable in dry weather. road - was recently inspected by Mr. T. M. Ball, the district engineer for the Public Works Department, foi* a distance of 67 miles from the Stratford Post Office. This distance is in good order for motorists, but the worst part is to be found on the Stratford side of the Whangamomona saddle, where the rough papa surface is rapidly improving under traffic. On the other slope the drag logvis being used with good results. From Whangamomona onwards no motorist need fear the road,, and a wonderful improvement has been effeeted by the road gangs on the Moki saddle and jn the Tangarakua Gorge. Hie gorge road is again onened for tiaffic after being blocked since the floods of May last. This scenic reserve should form the objective of many patties as the summer advances
