NEW TENNIS - COURTS,

For some considerable time the Maoris of sie Waiokura Pa have been Working hard in making new tennis courts at the pa, which were opened to the public, Maori and pakeha, on 25th December. The opening was on an elaborate scale, the- committee specially catering .for their pakeha friends. Owing to the inclemency of the weather the attendance wus not as large as expected. The courts are a credit to the Waiokura Tennis Club and are in capital order. The president of the club, Mr Tonga Tutai, in a well-spoken speech, on behalf of the tennis club, welcomed all present. He was sorry .the weather was so bad, as. die would have , liked to see many of the pakeha friends present, and hoped that many friendly games would be played on the new courts between Manaia Tennis Club and the Waiokura Club. He extended a hearty welcome to the Manaia Tennis Club to play on the courts, and hoped all presentwould have an enjoyable day. He then asked Mrs John Dam on and Miss R, Rei to put the first two balls over the net. A most■ enjoyable day was, spent, and in the evening a very-happy dance was held ; and ini any vocal items were' given. . The committee are to be congratulated on their enterprise.
