Belcher, W. H. Weir, T. R. Anderson, and S. Parker. - The county engineer reported, inter aha :--South..Riding-:- The entrance to the Sole Road from the Mountain Road lias been widened. Air.- Walker kindly- suggested- that Ms- fence -be set hack: This-lias had the effect:of giving a much better view at the junction. Foiir hundred and eiglity--i'our- yards of chips- and sand “it aim been carted from the: Cornwall .Road to the Cheal and Alountain Roads.: About: two miles- of the former road Inis had "a- tar dressing; The' widening of- the road-, formation on Mountain Road. South, opposite Air. Walk-.-er s property, is in hand, and the : widening 'of the formation at the Giimie Road junction is also - being done. One ' hundred and ninety-one yards o( shingle and .sand have been carted into the Bird Road. AVest Riding :- Tlie widening - of the formation on the Ronald - Road lias -been: completed.. The grader has been fun over the grass sides of the following roads : -Ronald, Poto, Hastings. :: Finiiert.yv Palmer. Diithie. Climiej- Brooks and Brecon. .This- work- has - the effect .of blinding themetal and cleaning out 'tlie water-tables.. Nine hundred and thirteen yards of screened -shingle-have been distributed, oh the Opunake Road. Twelve yards of . sand and shingle have been obtained from the . Waiiigongoro .stream. Mangaeliu -RhEing.: Practically, all the - clay • roads have been run over with the grader. The drag log lias been used on tlie •Puniwhakau, Alangaehu South, -Te \\ harenikau, - Alangaehu,- and BrewerTaihore Roads. \Vater-tabling, ferncutting and nietal-ijatching have been done 'on the metalled roads. About one hundred yards ■of shell- rock have been taken out in widening the Alangaehu Road at Mr Norris’s property and carting to the crushing site; Afurther cfifty yards will probably ho obtained. . • '; , ; ■ ROAD .MATTERS. A, complaint: was received from the! Lowgarth Dairy Company that - the Finnerby and Upper Hastings .Roads were both in a bad state., It was re-, solved -to advise, the company that the council hoped to tar seal .both roads as soon, as they were able. ... An : offer was. received from Air. ’RZ Willis, of. .Ivaponga, of £l2 10s for the use of about eight acres at the corner of the O.punake and Alanaia ; Roads, the land to. be available from time to, time for the use of the council.—nTlie engineer was deputed to deal with the matter. * N ; DOG TAX.. .... : This was fixed as. last,year—2s .6cl for. working dogs and 10s for sporting , dogs. / .:' ;• r.:;::-. .
