PERSONAL ITEMS.

Mrs W. Henson, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Jessie Henson, returned home last week, after a very enjoyable holiday spent in Scotland. The appointment is announced of Mr Henry Hubert Ostler, of the law firm of Jackson, Russell, Tunks and Ostler, of Auckland, to the Supreme Court Bench, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Sir John Salmond. He will assume duty on February 1, 1925. At the last meeting of the Taranaki Swimimng Centre, Mr E. C. Fletcher, who had been nominated as vice-presi-dent of the Swimming Association, Svrote stating, his pleasure in accepting the position. ' Mr L. Macintosh Ellis, BJSc.F., has been appointed. Director of Forestry for a further period of three years from January 8; 1925.

Mi6s K. Parker, who has conducted Zephyr Lodge Private School for the past two years, leaves Eltham on Monday to take up her residence in Auckland.

By to-day’s mail train Mr and Mrs P. O’Dea left Hawera for Wellington, where they will join the steamer for; a trip to Australia. Mr A. A. Stewart, of Eltham, will join them in Wellington, and will tour with them.

A popular member of the local staff of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Mr J. A. Cameron, who for nearly six years has occupied the position of accountant, has received notice of his promotion to a similar position in the 'Dunedin office. He will leave for his new location next week. DOring his residence here Mr Cameron has been closely identified with the Returned Soldiers’ Association and their club, having been president for two years and still occupying that position. He and Mrs Cameron have made many friends in Hawera, who, while regretting their departure, will congratulate him on his promotion. He was some years ago previously on the Dunedin staff. Mr T. L. Couper, of the Dunedin branch; has. been appointed to succeed Mr Cameron, and will arrive in Hawera on Monday next.
