BASE SINGAPORE.
- ■ DEFENCE COMMITTEE’S DECISION. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON. Dec. 5. The Imperial Defence Committee discussed the Singapore base question yesterday, and it is understood they recommended that the work should be resumed. It is expected that Cabinet’s acquiescence will be indicated in the King’s Speech in Parliament on Tuesday. In the meantime the Dominions will probably be consulted further. More than £120,000 of the preliminary vote at present has not been expended. It is understood, acdbrding to information from a well-informed but unofficial source, that steps are likely to be taken soon to push on with the plan for the construction of the Singapore naval base. Probably the Estimates for 1925-26 will provide the necessary current expenditure.
