JOCKEY KILLED.
CON REED SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. TAUMARUNUI, Dec. 6. C. Reed, who fell from his. mount in the first race at the; Taumarunui races to-day, is in a serious condition, suffering from concussion and a broken rib.
. ' Later. •On making inqiiiries per telephone frofii the Taumarunui Hospital at a.n early hour this morning, the Chronicle received the sad intelligence that Reed had passed away at 9 o’clock last evening.
(It is a coincidence that two wellknown jockeys should have met their deaths in much the same manner within- a. few days of one another. A. J. McFlinn died as the result of injuries received in the first race at Takapuna, arid Con Reed was fatally injured in the first race at Taumairunui. McFlinn’s f uneral took place on Sun lay of last week, and prominent among tlie wreaths was one sent by the three Reed brothers, of whom Con was the youngest member).
