PLUCKY RESCUE.

YOUNG MAN SAVED

INCIDENT AT KAUPOKONUI

With the approach of warm weather the call of the beaches becomes stronger, and increasing numbers of people seek the enjoyment of sea bathing. But, as experienced swimmers know, there is serious danger awaiting those who proceed too far out or tempt the waters of swollen rivers, and it is necessary that every care he exercised. Our Manaia correspondent reports that a narrow escape from drowning was the experience of a young man, about .18 years of age, from Glenn road last Sunday at the Kaupokonui beach. He was swimming with others a little distance up the Kaupokonui river, which was in flood, and was carried out to sea over the breakers and could not -return to shore. Cyril Hansen, son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Hansen, Manaia, was on the beach at the time fully dressed, and noticed that the young man was in difficulties and calling for help, being in danger of drowning, he divested himself of his coat and swam out with the rest of his clothes and hoots on and brought the young man to shore. A warning is necessary to all swimmers to be very careful of the beach, as the tides are very treacherous. Cyril Hansen is to be highly commended for his prompt action under difficulties in rescuing the young man.
