PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr and Mrs P. O’Dea, accompanied by Mr A. A. Stewart (Eltham) leave Wellington on December 22 on a holiday trip to Australia. The pai’ty will be away for about a month. inspector cf schools under the Education Department in Wellington (Mr F. E. Bakewell) will retire on superannuation on December 31.
The following students of the Hawora Technical High School engineering classes were successful in passing City and Guilds of London examinations in mechanical engineering in May last: Clement Allen, first grade, division 11; Arnold Saunders, first grade, division 1. J. H. Vowless, an old student of the school, was also successful in obtaining a double pass in first grade, division 11, mechanical engineering.
Air. E. Atkin, editor of the Hawera Star, has been appointed to the position of snli-editor of the Wanganui Herald. Mr. Atkin, who is a journalist of many years’ standing, has occupied his present position for over seven years, and to his new sphere of activity will carry with him the best wishes of his manv friends in Hawera He Calces up his new duties early in •January.
