PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS.

DIXON BANNER. BENNETT AND SUTTON CUP. If there is one event more than another that is looked forward to by the boys and girls of South. Taranaki, that event is ' the primary schools sports for the Dixon Banner and Bennett and Sutton Cup. When first arranged an entry of two-, or three hundred would have been considered most satisfactory, and that the competition would ever reach its present proportions would never have been credited. For this vear’s sports, which are to be held on th© Hawera Show Grounds on Wednesday next, no fewer than 887 entries in running and jumping events have been received from 20 schools all over South Taranaki. In addition 51 teams of four will take part in the relay races. This is easily a record for Taranaki, if not for New Zealand, and makes last year’s figures pale into insignificance. The • handling of such numbers calls for much systematic care, and assures the public c.f a day of good clean sport without delay and waiting between events With the knowledge gained at previous competitions, the youthful competitors are keener than ever this year, and the desire of each girl or boy is to do his or her part to bring success to the school. It is confidently expected that the public will attend in large numbers and thus encourage the young competitor’s in their various undertakings. In addition a first-class day’s sport is assured. ,
