HAWERA MUNICIPAL BAND.

WELCOME TO LIEUT. FOX. Lieut. Fox, the recently appointed conductor, met his committee and bandsmen in the bandroom last evening. Mr. E. Dixon, chairman of the band committee, extended a very hearty welcome to Lieut Fox, and in the course of his remarks said that the success of the band would largely depend on the loyalty of the bandsmen to their conductor; with that assured it would not be long before Hawera would have a band that would be a credit to the town. He would also like to mention the splendid support that was being given by the public in the appeal for funds, that ivas being made at the present time. The Mayor, Mr. L. A. Bone, on behalf of the Borough, said that it gave him much pleasure to welcome Lieut. Fox, and he hoped the bandsmen would tolly around the conductor and give -him the best that was in them, and he felt sure that Hawera would have as good a band as anywhere in Taranaki. Lieut. Fox, who was received with applause, thanked those present for the very hearty welcome, and he could assure them that he already felt quite at home. He felt confident that it would be quite possible to build up a band worthy of the town, and there was no reason why it should not be possible to have a band equal to any town in New Zealand. "Lieut. Fox said it was always best to understand each other from the beginning, and he crave a general outline of what he woiilcT expect of bandsmen, and in return he would give them of the best that was m him, and he felt sure the result nould be of benefit to themselves individually and the band generally. A very enthusiatic meeting closed with expressions on all sides of setting down to solid work, and every effort will be made to build up a firstclass band in Hawera.
