TENNIS.
On the Hawera courts on Saturday, a friendly match ,was to have taken place between the two local clubs, but had to be abandoned on account of xain. Light rain fell shortly after 1 o’clock and the kbpes or players naturally rose when half an hour later the weather appeared to ciear-up, and lvgd the players rolled up at the hour arranged for the commencement, quite a number of games would have been played and decided, but this was not to be. The first match was not started until .an hour later and although a number of matches were in progress only one was decided when rain set in and spoilt what might otherwise have been a day of dose and very interesting play. Next Saturday the Park Club will probably meet Patea on the Park courts in the first round of the Association competitions, and the Hawera Club is holding a. combined Croquet and Tennis -Tournament. It is hoped that all croquet and tennis enthusiasts wall take part in the tournament, as it is understood it is being held for the benefit of the Provincial Croquet Championship meeting to be held here during the holidays.
