HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE

(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. NAPIER, Nov. 28. A defect in a kerosene stove resulted in the. complete destruction this afternoon of a nine-roomed house at Greenmeadows, owned by Mrs Harold Butcher and occupied by the owner and her children. The occupants lost all their personal effects, but found it possible to save a quantity of valuable furniture. The insurances are not ascertainable. As there was no brigade or water supply there were no means of checking the outbreak. PREMIER RESTING. AUCKLAND, Nov. 28. Ihe Prime Minister (Mr W. F. Massey), after a good night’s rest, showed a marked improvement to-day, and is m better health than at any time since his illness commenced. Mr Massey will remain in Auckland until Saturday mght and although he is attending to the despatch of urgent public business, he desires to obtain as much rest as possible. < ' SCHOOL OF FORESTRY. AUCKLAND, Nov. 28. The Auckland University .College is making a keen effort to complete the organisation of the new School of Forestry so that it may operate from the middle of next year. Applications are being called in India, Canada and Great Britain for the position of Professor of Forestry, and the various courses of instruction have been defined.

The education to be provided is very wade in scope, and is designed to enable others besides university students to avail themselves of instruction in forestry. COLLAPSE OF WHARF. . AUCKLAND, Nov. 28. The inquirv into- the recent collapse °f Western Wharf has concluded, and the report of the experts will be issued shortly. A SERIOUS CHARGE. OTAKI, Nov. 29. William Thomas Moulin, charged with indecent assault on boys at Waikanae, pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial, .bail of £6OO being granted. /
