CROPLEY CASE
SYDNEY BRIBERY CHARGES. INQUIRY CONTINUED. FURTHER EVIDENCE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Nov. 28, 11.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 28. Addressing the Commission of inquiry into the Oropiey cnarges, mr Watt, tor Alderman Walker, saia tne publicity given by the Commission m regard to the Cropley matter had, it irs intention was ,to get at the truth, entirely defeated its "aim. It was obvious to' anyone who had paid attention to the case that there had been an attempt by Cropley to bribe someone, and it was obvious that Cropley had taken the course he did .in- order to shield that person. Whoever Cropley had attempted to bribe, it was not one of those whose names had been mention in .the case. He contended that il : the material supplied to the; Crown solicitor had been given to the- Detective Department to make discreet inquiries they would have had enough material to secure something more pertinent to. the matter than a Royal Commission had been able to"elicit.*
