ILLEGAL LOTTERIES.

FINE OF £SO. AUCKLAND, Nov. 27. At the Police Court to-day George Joseph Silver pleaded guilty to having commenced lotteries at Helensville and Auckland. In a statement to the police accused said he had not long been out of a prison farm, and had done casual work only. He ordered a thousand tickets, selling about twenty at 2s 6d at Helensville, and eight or ten at Auckland. He admitted that he had not the permission of the Minister for Internal Affairs.

The magistrate remarked that aoonsed had been previously sentenced for a similar offence. A fine of £SO, in default two months’ imprsonment, was inflicted.
