AN OVERLOOKED £2OOO.

TREASURER’S SHOCK. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Nov. 23 The treasurer of the Matamata Led Cross branch received a shock a few nays ago when he was informed by the manager of the Morrinsviile 1 ranch of the Bank of New Zealand that there was a sum of over £2OOO standing to the credit of the branch in the bank. The money was collected m the district as the result of a very successful campaign during 1918, when over £4OOO was subscribed. A meeting of those interested was held last night, -when Mr J. Price (chairman of the branch), declared empahtically that he thought the whole of the funds had been sent to Auckland headquarters in 1918. It appeared that the oversight had arisen Loin the fact that the secretary had left rue distinct and the bank’s intimations were not forwarded to Matamata.

The meeting decided to forward the money to the authorities in Auckland who took over the affairs of the Provincial Committee.

A most regrettable feature ‘il.out the fund is that the money has keen lying at the bank for nearly six years without earning interest. With a little more delay the amount would have become subject to the Statute of Limitations, and might possibly have passed into the Public Fund.
