ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE, TO-NIGHT. “APRIL SHOWERS.” No vamp or vilain. These two characters, so necessary most screen stories, are absent in the wholesome Master picture “April Showers.” True enough, the lovable little Irish heroine portrayed by Colleen Moore, tries to put a vamp into the story by imagining one. \Vhen the rich society girl (portrayed by beautiful Ruth Clifford) comes down to the slums to try to make poor Irish folk happier, Alaggie Muldoon (Colleen Aloore) rouses herself to furious jealousy, for she is certain the ■ Fifth Avenue Miss is going to/ steal her sweetheart, Danny O’Rourke (Kenneth Harlan). Innocent Danny’s only 7 desire is to become a good policeman like his dad, and' the society girl, with not a vampish thought, is only helping him pass his examinations for the force. “April Showers” is a clean and delightful romance of Irish life. The cast includes Oolleen Aloore/ Kenneth Harlan, Ruth Clifford, Priscilla Bonner and Myrtle Vane. “Rolling Along,” a Christie comedy, of the irresistible kind, an interesting educational film, and the latest Pathe Gazette complete an excellent programme.

FISK JUBILEE SINGERS

It is fairly safe to say that there is no body of part singers and soloists better known than the Fisk Jubilee Singers, who will appear at the Opera House next Monday lor a short season, and furthermore, there is no danger in saying that nobody is more entitled to fame than they are. Beginning many years ago on their tours, they met. With immediate success, and since then the successors of the original band have gone about the world following in the footsteps of those who had preceded them. The standard of the original band was high, and it is only necessary to say that it has not deteriorated.

Tlfe Jubilee Singers have only one of the original band with them, and that one. Miss Belle Gibbons, is still able to give a performance that is worth going a long way to hear. The other members of the company are much younger, but they live well, up to the-old tradition.- The. party consists of four men and six women, and most or them have voices of an unusual quality. They all seem to hr.ve a slight plaintive ring that gives a distinctive tone to their voices, and is used with, lme effect in the part-singing. This, coupled with the fact that the enunciation and general production arc perfect, ensures a good solid foundation for the performance. The choruses always seem to deal with things that have a suggestion of lightness about them. Perhaps it mightg be more accurate to say that the themes are simple, and handled with an almost childish delight. The parf-singing in all of them is superb, the blend and balance being perfectly'preserved. It is in this class of work that the ringing quality of the voices is particularly noticeable. It gives a swing to, the air, and in a subtle sort of way enhances the whole The company consists of three sonranos, a contralto, two tenors, a baritone, a basso,, pianist, -and last but not jaa-st a lady baritone. TOWN HALL, MANAIA—TO-NIGHT. RINGLAND’S VAUDEVILLE AND , CIRCUS. Ringland’s celebrated Vaudeville and Circus De Luxe, which is reported to have been creating quite a sensation during its tour of the Dominion, opens a short season in Manaia at the, Town Hall to-night (Monday). The company comes with the reputation of giving an entertainment that is bright, clean and novel. ' Included in the company are many artists with an international reputation. On the bill are acrobats, gymnasts, a ventriloquist,, jugglers, a conjurer, a trapeze artist, performing dogs, a character sketch artist, a duo of instrumentalists, o saxophone soloist and a pair of clowns. It is claimed for these artists that they represent the cream of the vaudeville stage and the circus arena. Patrons will be able to enjoy all the pleasures and thrills of a circus without any of the dangers and discomforts so essentially a part of the tent circus performance on a wet and stormy night. This class of entertainment has attained immense popularity on the Continent of Europe, and Riuglaml’s, who are its pioueres in Australasia, are evidently giving to the public of this country a type of show that is meeting with unqualified approval. The prices of admission are exceptionally reasonable for such an entertainment,
