RACING TAXATION

POSITION OF SMALL CLUBS. MR MASSEY SYMPATHETIC. PREVIOUS PROMISE RECALLED. (By Telegraph—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 30. The Premier received sympathetically a suggestion from Mr Perelle in the Hone© to-day that he should consider a reduction in the taxation of small racing clubs, a number of which, according to Mr Perrelle, would be obliged to go out of existence owing to the heavy burden of taxes. Mr Maeseay stated that lie remembered answering a similar question last year in a favourable manner. . It was a matter for Cabinet, and he could make no definite promise except that Cabinet would consider it before the session ended. He knew some of the clubs’ difficulties, and had just received a communication from a good club in the South Island showing that they had loet over £6OO, and it was ipmossible for them to carry on. *
