SHIP’S WATCHMAN DROWNED. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Oct. 29. Richard Albert Chidley, watchman on the s.s. Maori Avas drowned to-day. His body was recovered. USED POSTAGE STAMPS. TIMARU, Oct. 29. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, George D. Lockhart Avas charged with fraudulently removing stamps from postal packets with intent to use them again. Thei*e Avere five charges, the value of the stamps amounting to 5b 6d. SCHOOL ATHLETICS. DUNEDIN, Oct. 29. The Otago Boys’ High School’s sports meeting Avas held on the Carisbrook ground to-day. In the junior cup 440 yards, V. H. Trochon loAvered the school record of 61 2-ssec by doin gthe distance in 60 3-ssec. In the senior cup 220 yards. C. H. Duff equalled the previous record time of 24sec, and also equalled the school record of 10 4-ssec in the senior cup 100 yards event. McArthur and Duff tied for the senior cup. and the junior cup Avas won by Trochon. RACING CUP DESTROYED. WANGANUI. Oct, 30. A .rac J ng cun valued at £IOO was destroyed in a fire at-BroAvn’s.
