WAR IN CHINA.
’ POSITION UNCHANGED.BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT PEKING, Oct. 28. Authoritative reports from Chin-Wang-Tao state that Chang-Tso-Lin’s artillery opened fire on the railway area at Shan-Hai-Kwan yesterday, and Wu-Pei-Fu’s heavy guns replied with a prolonged bombardment. Otherwise there was no lighting, and no change on the whole front. A Chang-Tso-Lin areoplane registered a hit on the cruiser Haichi, damaging the main deck. A Tientsin message says that Wu-Pei-Fu at present is not advancing, and indication's are that a battle is not imminent. Wu is awaiting definite promises from the Kiangsu, Hupeh and Shantung provinces. The senior Consul called on Wu-Pei-Fu and drew 7 his atteiition to the protocol forbidding the stationing of troops in Thientsin and its vicinity.
