CINEMA FIRE.
GIRLS’ LEAP FOR LIFE. SENSATIONAL AFFAIR. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT, Received Oct. 24, 2:30 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 23. At a sensational fir-c in the cinema quarter of London forty fire engines acre in action. An explosion occurred in the premises of the Ideal Film Company ami the Topical Film Company, AAardour street, blowing out the windows. The .flames leaped across the road and set live to a motor-car standing outsidei P'atho Frer-es Limited, opposite. Meanwhile thousands of feet of topical films were ablaze and in a few minutes the big building was aflame. Tongues of fire shooting high above the roof cut off the. escape of girl employees who rushed to the windows.
Horror - stricken passers-by, seeing the screaming women leaning from the second floor windows, shouted to them to jump into the street. The girls did so. One of them caught her heels as she was jumping through a window and fell on her head. She was .picked up unconscious, but otherwise none of the others were seriously hurt, but seven were taken to hospital for treatment erf bad burns. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
