BOY SCOUTS.
“A POSSIBLE DISTURBANCE/’ ; ■ RATEPAYERS’ PROTEST. AGAINST SCOUTS’ HALL SITE. On the grounds that disturbances might take place in the ■ proposed Boy gouts’ hall, a deputation representing halt a dozen ratepayers of Albion Stieot waited on the Borough Council last evening and urged that the proposed site be not approved by the local authority. A petition, which was signed by Messrs. J. E'xley, AV. H. Hoddle, C rj. * Bqwne.s, W. M. Douglas, J. A. Ashton and A. A. Graham, was presented by Messrs. Hoddle and Bownes, who pointed out that the residents were already penalised by the band practising twice and beginners once a week in the band room close by. The Mayor: I am pleased to hear it. Air. Hoddle: So am lif it is in the right- direction. Continuing, Mr. Hoddle said he could have sold his property twice during the past twelve months if it had not been for the -adjacent bandroom. The residents in his part of the street already had the borough yards and the band room close by, and surely that was enough without anything more being planted in their vicinity. Mr, Bownes said that children who had to go to heel earlv were at present disturbed by the band practising, and in the case of his little liny, who had been serionslv ill, they had had to block the child’s ears with cotton wool. When the deputation withdrew Cr. Morrissey put forward the suggestion that the old drill Hall. which had been presented to the band some years ago hv Messns. Nolan, Parkr-wn and R-iddiford, should again be used by the band and that the Boy Scouts should the present bandroom. Cr. Osbn’’ne said ho wa.« at a loss to know whv the Scouts could not. use the drill hall in the Winter Show buildings. As far as the petition was concerned none of the councillors present would like the Scouts-' hall erected ne v t- t.o thpir properties. On the motion of Crs. 1 Morrissey and Champion, the matter was referred hack to the council’s committee -and report.
