Harding) and the headmaster (Mr I<. A.- liates) waited on tiie Borough Council last night with a iequest that three-quarters of an hour on lour days of the week he nominated lor the exclusive 'benefit of the school cttilaren, who would "be taught swiinming at the baths during that time. The deputation made it clear that the children would he under proper control- They would like the free ttse of tne baths if possible, but if the Council could not see its way to grant this they would he gratified if the minimum charge were quoted. Such an arrangementwould not interfere with the sale of children’s season tickets. Mr Bates stated that about 150 children would Ire brought to the baths on each of the four days, and he was anxious that as many children as possible should learn to, swim . and lie taught life-saving. When the deputation retired, the Mayor pointed out that any privilege would have to be extended to all the other xehools in the town. Councillor Burdekin agreed that they should net do anything without ascertaining the wants of the other schools, and on his motion it was decided to refer the. whole- matter, to the Baths Committee to Tenort to the Council.
