HOSPITAL BOARD.
OPUNAKE DISTRICT PATIENTS. BOUNDARY ALTERATION SUGGESTED. The necessity for the inclusion in the Hawera, Hospital Board’s area of a portion of the district in the vicinity of Opunake was mentioned at the meeting of the Mawei a Hospital Board to-day, when there were present: Messrs. F. Gilianders (chair), J. J. Meltlon, A. Wills, J. S. McKay, E. A. Washer, E. J. Gifford and A. G. La reoan. T'ho Taranaki Hospital Board wrote stating that they had to again protest-, against the admission into the Hawera hospital of residents, in thoir area, and in connection with two cases whose admittance had not been' notified and which were not considered serious, the Taranaki board accepted no liability for their hospital accounts. Members pointed out that - patients from Te Kiri and the district round about preferred to come to the Ha.wera hospital rather than to l'ac-e the long journey round . the mountain to New Plymouth. What was wanted was an alteration in the boundary between the two hospital districts. Hie chairman extended a hearty welcome to the Hawera County Council’s new representative on the board, Mr. A. G. Larcoin, who takes the seat recently vacated by Mr. C. J. Hawken. —Mr. La room briefly returned thanks. OFFICERS’ REPORTS. The medical superintendent. Dr. W. M Thomson, reported that on August 31. there we 50 58 patients in hospital. During; September G 8 patients were admitted, 65 were discharged, 1 died and 60 remained in hospital mi the 30th. The daily -average of occupied beds during September was 60.5 and patient davs totalled 1817. The daily average of occupied beds during the six months of lb’s year was 57.2. am 7 for tho same period of last rear 46.8. During September 27 operations were performed. Massage patients receiving treatment at the end of September totalled 12. The matron. Nurse R, Loel-bead, reported that Sister G. Bretherton had entered her second vear as men’s ward sister. Nurses Richards and Pyeroft liad entered on three months’ duty as probationer?;. The secretarv. Mr. C. M. I-Tacgett. reported that the amount of patients’ foes collected during September, while still being high, was not as great ns that coller-tted during the two previous mouths. The collections, however, for the six mouths up to September SC were £IOOB in excels of the collections for the same period of last- vear. Thp farm manager, Mr, T-T, J. Webber, reported that 453 gallons of milk had been supplied to the hospital' and old men’s home, together with bacon and vegetables to the value of £l9 17s. The matron of the Old People’s Home, Mrs. M. Laing, reported that there were now 9 inmates- in the home, all of whom were well. Donations -had been received from the Methodist 'Girls’ Bible Class, Mrs. C. Mcßhe and Messrs. Sutton and Travis.
